Who would have thought R2-D2 would go postal before C-3PO?!
The 30th anniversary of the 1977 release of the original, classic film
Star Wars has brought about a wedding of a sort. The U.S. Postal Service and George Lucas have joined forces and decorated 400 mailboxes as the droid R2-D2 in 200 cities. I had my eye out for them this day, but was still surprised to happen upon this one on my way to photograph the
Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill on the Embarcadero, not very far from this location.
Just for fans: As someone who has doodled many an R2 as a kid, I can tell you that the details on the decal are very accurate. Except for one, that is: This Artoo has no feet! Oh, and the real article lacks the URL reference, etc.
